The Barnegat Lighthouse or 'Old Barney', as it is known locally, is the second tallest lighthouse in the United States and designed by George G. Meade.  George Meade, however, is a little bit more famous for defeating General Lee at Gettysburg.  The lighthouse is a beautiful tall light house with a great picnic area and amazing views.  Going up the lighthouse is not for those who do not like steps or are afraid of heights.  My 6 year old daughter(5 at the time) was able to climb up and down, but was winded afterward.  A true must see for a lighthouse buff.
More Information can be found at:

Must sees for those going to the lighthouse are The Barnegat Light Historical Society Museum and
Edith Duff Gwinn Gardens.  They are right up the road from the lighthouse and are discussed in the museums section of the forum.
